ESI was retained to achieve Spill Closure for the Site which included addressing approximately three-feet of LNAPL. ESI designed, installed, and operated a DPHVE system utilizing twelve (12) recovery wells.
By the time asymptotic conditions were reached, LNAPL was no longer being measured and the DPHVE system removed approximately 1,500 pounds of contamination via soil vapor extraction (SVE) and approximately 1,600,000 gallons of impacted groundwater that was treated and discharged under an approved New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP)-permit.
Various meetings were held with the NYSDEC to discuss the asymptotic levels, current soil and groundwater concentrations remaining, and an exit strategy. The exit strategy negotiated included an ISCO treatment program and post-remedial monitoring. The program was to serve as a remediation polisher and included three (3) rounds of application with the use of twenty-eight (28) injection points.
Following post-remedial monitoring, a Spill Closure Report was submitted.
The Site is currently in the post-remedial monitoring phase. It is anticipated this Spill Case will have NYSDEC Closure in 2017.
