Project Details

ESI was retained by a major natural gas utility company to complete a Due Diligence Phase II investigation of an industrial property with the understanding that Site would enter the ISRA program and the Site would be redeveloped to facilitate Gas Utility operations.

An ESI Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) was retained to oversee the remediation of the Site. The investigation, remediation, and demolition of the onsite building was fast-tracked to meet the redevelopment schedule. ESI met this challenge by completing the onsite PA/SI/RI/RA in 16 months to allow construction activities to begin.

The PA/SI identified 15 Area of Concerns that were associated with the previous industrial establishment. Soil remediation included soil excavation and the establishment of a cap and deed notice.

Groundwater remediation included injection of Zero Valent Iron solution in 34 injections points to treat a pre-existing unknown 1,1-dicholoethene groundwater plume located under the building.

The remaining low levels of groundwater contamination will be remediated by natural attenuation and establishing a Classification Exception Area, and a groundwater permit.
